Barnabas Lamson married Marie (__?__) before 1631 probably in Ridgewell, co. Essex, England.1 He died circa 1640.2

Immigration: on 10 August 1635, Embarked from Harwich, England, in the ship "Defence."3

Barnabas embarked from Harwich, England, in the ship "Defence", on August 10, 1635, in the company of Reverend Thomas Shepard. They settled in Newtowne (now Cambridge), Massachusetts. There they found many vacant houses as Rev. Thomas Hooker and his party had recently left the area to settle a large portion of his congregation at Hartford.
Barnabas probably hailed from the area of Ridgewell, Essex County, England, where the baptisms of his son Barnabas and daughter Martha are recorded. It is likely that some of his other children were born in England as well as in New England. He may have been a brother, or close relative, of William Lamson, of Ipswitch, Massachusetts, however there is no known documentation connecting the two.
His wife's surname is unknown, however, she is identified as "Marie" at the baptism of their daughter Martha in England in 1633/4. She was related to Peter Lidgett, a Boston merchant, who left legacies in 1671 to the three daughters of Barnabas and Marie, calling them "cousins" and "ye three children of my aunt Lamson." He also mentions his sister, Mary Smith, living in Essex, England and his sister's children in London.

Joseph Lamson was born on 21 September 1689 in Concord, Middlesex Co., Mass..1 He was the son of Joseph Lamson and Elizabeth Adams. He married Mary Ann (__?__).2 He died circa 1778 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., Conn..3

Born in Concord Massachusetts, Joseph probably married in Concord by 1710. From his probate record in 1778 we learn that the name of his wife is Mary Ann, alias Ann. Whether she is the mother of all his children is not known, however, onomastic evidence suggests that she may have been his only wife as his first daughter, born in Concord in 1711, is named Mary.
By 1715, Joseph had moved to that part of Simsbury in the vicinity of Salmon Brook and remained there throughout his life. Named in his will in 1777 is his wife, Mary Ann alias Ann. His son Joseph (called first son), daughters Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail (called second daughter), Lidia, Annora [Honora], and children of Dinah (since Dinah has already received her portion). There is no birth record known for Lydia, Honora, and Dinah, so their birth order is unknown.
When daughter Elizabeth died in 1797, at the age of 71, and unmarried, among those who benefited from the distribution of her estate were her brother, Joseph, a Mrs. Mary Lamson, and Abigail Day (SPR 4:85, 1778). Abigail Day was the daughter of Elizabeth's elder sister, Abigail (Lamson) Woodward, who had died within a few weeks after her sister, Elizabeth.

Immigration: before 1 March 1635/36, when he is found in Cambridge, Mass.
Freeman: on 2 June 1641 in Concord, Middlesex Co., Mass..
Education: Signed a deed in 1681 with his mark, while Elizabeth signed her name.

His origin is unknown, however the presence of Emund Rice of neighboring Sudbury might suggest a possible relationship. Although there is no known connection of Richard Rice of Concord with Edmund of Sudbury, Elizabeth, the daughter of Richard, married Joseph Lamson while Matthew Rice, son of Edmund, married Joseph's sister, Martha Lamson.
Richard is found first in Cambridge, Massachusetts in March of 1635/36 when he agreed to keep a hundred cows for the townspeople but in the same year he is found in Concord where he was made a freeman on June 2, 1641. He left few records, he did, however, convey land to his son Peter in 1681 which he signed with his mark, while his wife Elizabeth signed her name. The births of only two of his children have yet to be found in records, it is probable though, that all of his children were born in America.
The death of Elizabeth, which occurred after 1681, is not recorded however in October of 1698 Mary, a second wife, dies. It is likely that Richard's first wife, Elizabeth, was the mother of all his children. When Richard died in 1709 it is claimed that he was 100 years old, records in previous years give evidence that he was indeed 100 years old at his death.

We have lines of descent through daughters Hannah and Elizabeth.4

John Welton

John Welton was born in England or Wales. He married Mary Upson, daughter of Thomas Upson and Elizabeth Fuller, circa 1666.1 He died on 18 June 1726 in Waterbury, New Haven Co., Conn..2,3

Immigration: Bef. 1672 when he is found in Farmington.4
Founder/Proprietor: Farmington, 1672; Waterbury, 1678/79.
Public Office: Waterbury Selectman, 1680, 1708; Constable, 1698-1714.
Military Service: Called Corporal in 1691.

John Welton was probably born in England or Wales. There is no indication in the records to indicate his age. Family tradition claims that he married Mary Upson either in England or aboard ship on the passage to America. For reasons discussed under her father, Thomas Upson, I believe it is more likely that they were married in New England. In November of 1681, their daughter Abigail is 14 years old, indicating her birth is in November or December of 1666 or 1667. Based on this, the marriage must have taken place by 1666, or early 1667.
By 1672 John is found in Farmington where he was a proprietor of that town, though not an original settler. In 1673 John was one of twenty-six men to petition the General Court asking permission to make a plantation (settlement) in Mattatuck, later Waterbury. Permission was granted in 1674 however, with the outbreak of King Philip's War in 1675, the settlers were forced back to Farmington. In March of 1678/79, John Welton is fourth in order in the three acre lots which were allotted to the proprietors of Waterbury. John's home lot was on the south side of west Main St., east of the old burying yard.
John appears to have occupied a place of some importance in the community and was active in Waterbury town affairs from its inception to his death. His name is found among the proprietor's records in service to the town and in receiving of land grants by the town. In 1720, six years before his death, he was one of only seven remaining men living in Waterbury who had signed the plantation agreement in 1674.
It is said that John first settled at Saybrook. Mary Upson's brother Thomas was in Saybrook prior to his death their in 1672 and it might be that they became acquainted through her brother. John and Mary had twelve children. We can only speculate that the three eldest, Abigail, Mary, and Elizabeth, may have been born in Saybrook or Farmington. As we know that John and Mary were in Farmington by 1672, we can conclude that the next three children were born there. Richard, the seventh child, was born in Waterbury in 1680 and it is said that he was the first child of English parents born in the new settlement. John and Mary would spend the rest of their life in Waterbury and all their remaining children were born there.
